Gord Brody (Tom Green) is a wannabe cartoonist. However, living with his unsympathetic father (Rip Torn) and his perfect younger brother Freddy is driving him wild. Will he have to give up his dreams? Will his disabled masochistic nymphomaniac girlfriend ever finish her rocket powered wheelchair, and will claiming his twenty five year old brother is the victim of child abuse help. Plus what the hell has all of this got to do with masturbating an elephant!
If I have made this film seem like a riot of laughs I do apologise. This is one of the most offensively unfunny films ever to be made.
It is the latest is a long line of gross out comedies, the revival of which was pioneered by the Farrelly brothers. The success of their Dumb and Dumber spawned any number of clones all trying to out do each other in terms of stupidity and offensiveness. Thankfully the vast majority of these clones were awful and the viewing public moved on. So just as the fad for these mentally challenged comedies was finally (and thankfully) dying out along come Freddy got Fingered, to push the boundaries of good taste just that bit further.
There is nothing wrong with comedy pushing the boundaries of acceptability. Hey if there was we wouldn't have had Monty Python. However here is only so far you can push before something ceases to be funny and just is an offense to public decency. This film doesn't just cross the line but cross it then wipes it bum on it. If you can find scenes of masturbating animals, beating the physically disabled, or flinging a new born baby around by the umbilical (which had just been chewed through) funny then this is the film for you. Personally I find this physically repulsive and I fear for the mental health of anyone who didn't. I know we all have different limits, but you will have to trust me I am no prude. If you found my above description of the events in the movie unsettling let me assure watching them in graphic detail is far worse. This is not funny it is a highly offensive, nasty piece of work.
There is a place for the dumb gross out comedy, and while it is not my favorite type, when it's done well it can be hilarious. Films like Dumb and Dumber and Porky's are comic classics. Yes they are stupid, but boy are they funny. Unfortunately not only is Freddy got Fingered offensively stupid but it isn't remotely funny. Watching Tom Green run around screaming at people and generally acting like a prat is no substitute for jokes or humorous situations.
Tom Green is not an actor (or is that comedian, or maybe neither) I have seen much of. I believe he has a big television following in the states, but even so it is difficult to see why this project received the major investment it did. He seems to be a man with an infinite lack of talent, as he wrote, directed, and starred in this film. His unique brand of anarchic humor just isn't funny on screen, maybe it works better as a stand up act. This just highlights the danger of attempting to create film vehicles for comedians that aren't actors, a failure previously demonstrated with the likes of Chris Rock and Rik Mayall.
Freddy got Fingered is the sickest piece of unfunny puerile trash I have ever sat through. I would recommend that you avoid this film like you would the ebola virus. If you do find this film funny seek help, you are a very ill person. As for Tom Green all I can recommend is a permanent vacation in Camp X-ray is on the cards. This film is certainly front runner for worst film of the year. You have been warned.
