Three astronauts on a space station watch the earth destroy itself in a nuclear war. Stranded in orbit they decide to return to the devestated planet and take their chances with the other survivors. Upon landing they find that things have changed the people left alive have formed barbaric tribes. It is no survival of the fitest and they face a fight for their lives.
This is a micro budgeted post apocalyptic B movie. Ok so for the most part it despenses with the customised vehciles of Mad Max, but the locations and characters are all familiar. The addition of the returning astronauts is a neat and original touch. It allows us to see the survivor form an innocents point of view, and this contributes to the fact that the opening half is pretty good. Unfortunately further into the movie things take a turn for the predicitable. We end up in a classic heros verses evil gang overlord type of senario. It is a shame as avoiding this cliche and keeping things a bit more realistic would have provided a much more interesting story.
We are therefore left with a film that is entertaining and watchable in straight to video sort of way. Notable for a great armoured JCB and a spacestation that looks good in orbit, but shrinks and turns flimsy when it reaches earth. The acting is not bad and the story is coherent (if towards the end rather far fetched). However on the whole this is not as bad as it should have been.
|1.85:1 Anamorphic||Not bad considering the quality of the source material.|
|Mono||Hum not much here.|
|Not awful, but this is a little heard of film so who could expect more.|
